Cybersecurity Challenges and the Evolving Role of Engineers

Watch the interview with Jacob Herbst to gain insights into new cybersecurity challenges and the evolving role of engineers.

As October kicks off Cybersecurity Awareness Month, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the critical role of engineers and STEM professionals in safeguarding our digital future. ANE’s recent board workshop, held in Copenhagen this September, delved deep into the pivotal role of Nordic engineers and STEM experts in shaping the digital landscape.

Engineering in the Age of Cyber Threats

The workshop commenced with an enlightening talk by Jacob Herbst, CTO, and Partner at Dubex. He illuminated the evolving threat landscape and the profound consequences of cyberattacks. In a post-workshop interview, we discussed cybersecurity with Jacob, focusing on the challenges engineers face when implementing robust security measures.

Jacob Herbst emphasized that engineers today face a dual responsibility: mastering their traditional areas of expertise while ensuring the implementation of cybersecurity measures. Jacob highlighted that cybersecurity today is an imperative component of engineering practices and that the role of engineers will continue to evolve.

The conversation shifted to companies’ challenges in staying compliant with ever-evolving cybersecurity regulations. Businesses often lack the necessary skills and competencies, especially in smaller enterprises.
